When to Visit Jordan: A Season-by-Season Guide
"When is the best time to visit Jordan?" It's one of the first questions our guests ask, and our honest answer is always the same: it depends on the trip you're dreaming of! Jordan welcomes travellers year-round, but each season brings its own colours, temperatures, and moments to remember. Here's how each one feels, so you can pick the time that suits you best.
Spring (March to May): Jordan in Bloom
Spring is when Jordan shows off. The hills turn green, wildflowers cover the trails around Dana, and the days are warm without being hot. It's the perfect time to lace up your boots for our Dana to Petra Trek, or to explore the countryside on two wheels with the Cycle Jordan Tour. Just one tip: spring is popular, so book early!
Summer (June to August): Early Starts and Starry Nights
Yes, summer days are hot, but Jordan has its secrets. Start your Petra visit at sunrise, before the heat and the crowds arrive. Spend the evening in Wadi Rum, where the desert cools down, and the stars feel close enough to touch. Then cool off in the Red Sea at Aqaba. With school holidays in full swing, summer is also a great time for our Family Tour in Jordan.
Autumn (September to November): The Sweet Spot
As the summer heat fades, autumn brings golden light and comfortable days again. It's a wonderful season for hiking, camping under the Wadi Rum sky, and taking your time at Petra. If you love the idea of spring but missed it, autumn is your second chance.
Winter (December to February): Quiet, Cosy and Full of Warmth
Winter is Jordan's hidden gem. Petra is calmer, and you may have some of its trails almost to yourself. Nights in the desert and the highlands can be cold, but the Dead Sea stays pleasantly mild, making it the perfect place for a relaxing float. Winter is also the season to warm up with a steaming plate of mansaf and a cup of sage tea, which makes it a lovely time for our Taste of Jordan tour.
A Few Packing Tips for Any Season
- Layers, always. Even on warm days, desert evenings can get chilly.
- Sun protection. A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are your best friends all year round.
- Comfortable walking shoes. Petra alone can easily fill a day of walking.
- A light scarf. Handy for the sun, the wind, and visiting religious sites.
